Edwards Campaign Rolls Out Pathetic Attacks

Fri Jan 04, 2008 at 10:47:22 AM PDT

Less than twelve hours after John Edwards places well behind Obama, his campaign is rolling out the specious arguments. Follow me below the fold for a lesson in what not to do.

In an appearance on MSNBC, David Bonior, Edwards' campaign manager, ripped into Obama's record on health care from the time when he served in the Illinois State Senate.

"Barack Obama's kind of change is where you sit down and you cut a deal with the corporate world," Bonior said. "If you look at his record in Illinois when he had a major -- sponsored a major health bill that's what he did. He watered down with the help of the corporate lobbyist and they got a weak product out of that."

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough interjected: "Are you saying that Barack Obama is a sellout to corporate interests?"

Bonior responded, "He was four years ago in Illinois. All you have to do is look at the legislation I'm referring to."

This is shameless. I would like Bonior to address what Edwards was doing four years ago. Oh yeah, that's right: he was voting for the war in Iraq. But now, now Edwards has seen the light so we must all forgive and forget. Unless it was a mistake by Obama, and then we must wheel out old, tired arguments because Edwards has taken the cure while Obama stews in his lobbyist scum. Give me a break.

I look forward to NH, where I predict another resounding win from Obama. In a way, I guess I feel sorry for Edwards. Iowa was his one shot to show he could pull it off, and he failed. And now he attacks from a position of weakness, while Obama continues to take the high road.

I have a pretty good idea which path America will choose.
