Why I support Obama, and why I think you should consider doing the same

Thu Oct 04, 2007 at 09:01:47 AM PDT

There is so much talk about electability, it's just that - talk. We don't really know what will happen this winter and spring, but I think most of us have a pretty good idea who we support at this point.

I hang around at a couple of other websites, which aren't necessary political. One of them is a skiing website, and I recently started a thread there in the off topic forum about Obama.

You can see it here...but wait. I warn you, it is completely unmoderated, and filled with a bunch of people spewing juvenile arguments, because, well, because that's the nature of the off topic forum on a skiing website. However, I find it interesting because there are people with an unbelievably wide spectrum of political views all posting in the same place.

If you don't want to read the whole thing, let just excerpt a couple key posts.

As someone you could classify as Libertarian\Moderate Republican, I like and could vote for Obama.

Back to the question at hand though - any chance I would vote for a Democrat? Absolutely. Hillary? Not on your life. Obama? I think he's got some growing up to do before he's presidential material, but (for me) he's a long shot possibility I suppose..

And then, here is my favorite part. The most telling part, I think

Since my 18th birthday, some 20 years ago,I've been proud to be one of the 6 Republicans in MN. Though it pains me to say this, I am firmly in Obama's camp for the upcoming election. I found a copy of his book, literally found it, and was very impressed so I did more digging. Seems like the guy I'd like to see get a try. So yes, here is a candidate that could gain votes from very strage areas, namely a life long Republican. If Hill gets the nomination my vote is up for grabs, she just really puts me off. What's more surprising is that my wife the life long Dem, yeah it's pretty interesting around our dinner table, also is no fan of Hill and has said that if she's on the ballot whoever is running against her will get her vote.

So anyways, anecdotal at best, but fascinating.

I am going to give another little bit of money to Obama today, I think.
